Renter Insurance is not legally required in the state of Florida. However, depending on the apartment complex or rental home you are trying to move into, they might require for you to have renter insurance. Landlords are allowed to require you to carry renter insurance in Florida as part of their tenant application process. Renter insurance requirements and pricing can vary by state. It is always good to carry a policy.
What is covered under a renter insurance?
Renter insurance provides protection for a tenant and their personal belongings.
There is three main parts to a renters insurance policy:
- Personal property coverage: This covers your personal property if it is stolen or damaged by one of the covered perils listed above.
- Liability coverage: This protects you if you damage someone else’s property or cause someone injury, including if your dog bites someone.
- Loss-of-use coverage: This covers the cost of a temporary rental if your home is rendered uninhabitable by one of the covered perils listed above.
